The NEW Center’s Very Own Executive Chef, Xavier Smith, Took Top Honors at the 10th Annual Vegan Iron Chef Competition!
The Competition was a Headline Event of The “Who’s Your Mama?” Earth Day and Environmental Film Festival. The purpose of the competition is to educate the public about the health benefits of a vegan diet, both personal and ecological.
Contestants were encouraged to prepare vegan dishes that highlight local produce as well as provide an alternative to a meat based diet. Each competing Chef was allowed two burners and two assistants.
Judging was based on:
- Use of Locally Grown and/or Organic Food
- Use of the Mystery Ingredient
Xavier’s winning creation was a blackened tempeh and southern blue grits dish that was truly amazing and dynamic in visual appeal, creativity and taste.
